Dean of Instruction

Angela Joyner

Prior to taking on the role of Dean of Instruction at Power Center Academy High School, Angela Joyner served as the Founding Academy Director at Martin Luther King College Prep High School in the Frayser Community here in Memphis, TN. Angela has had 14 years of success in middle grades and high school education through Frayser Community Schools, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, and Baltimore City Schools.  She has led a team of over 45 staff members in staff development on the new Common-Core Standards, best teaching practices, while developing and coaching new teachers, who think as strategic leaders—with a charge to deliver.

Angela was featured on “Schools to Watch” and “How to Engage Underperforming Students on George Lucus’ educational platform edutopia.org. and highlighted in 2011 at the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board Meeting member Rhonda Lennon as an intentional relationship builder. She was also chosen to participate in a “Superintendent Round-Table” to discuss budget concerns in the district with Superintendent of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She was a Frayser Community Development Center Board Member for the 2015-2016 school year.

Angela is skilled in building collegial working relationships, driving productivity, leading and supporting change-management initiatives. Credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Master’s in Executive Leadership. Angela most recently graduated from RELAY National Principals Academy Fellowship.
